Humanitarian Affairs Officer/ Head of Coordination Unit - P4Location: Venezuela, Distrito Capital, CaracasSector: Nonprofit/Community/Social Services/International CooperationThe United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA's mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies.This position is located in the Operations and Advocacy Division (OAD), Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The incumbent reports to the Deputy Head of Office, OCHA Venezuela.Responsibilities:Manage day-to-day activities of the team, providing oversight for all substantive/programmatic, logistic, administrative, and security issues.Monitor, analyze, and report on humanitarian response and developments in the country.Lead and/or participate in large, complex projects, coordinating international humanitarian assistance for complex emergency situations.Assist in the production of appeals for international assistance and ensure proper use of donor contributions.Organize and prepare inter-cluster meetings and ensure alignment with HCT priorities.Assist national government counterparts in capacity-building for emergency situations.Initiate and coordinate activities related to technical cooperation in disaster response.Analyze and assist in introducing new technologies for disaster management.Prepare studies on humanitarian and emergency relief issues.Partner with other humanitarian agencies to plan and evaluate assistance programmes.Establish and maintain contacts with government officials and other organizations.Organize and participate in work groups and meetings related to humanitarian matters.Provide leadership and direction to the assigned work team.Perform other duties as required.Minimum Requirements:Education: Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in political science, social science, public administration, international studies, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field. A first-level university degree with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.Experience: A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis management, or related areas is required. Experience representing a UN agency or NGO at the national level is required. Humanitarian field experience in emergency situations is desirable.Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.Additional Information:This position is funded for 6 months and may be subject to extension.
