Removal Defense Legal Counsel

The Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality immigration legal services to low-income residents in the Bay Area. We seek a skilled Removal Defense Legal Counsel to join our team.

About the Position:

• Job Summary: Provide quality immigration-specific legal service, advice, and representation in support of low-income residents in removal proceedings.
• Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide legal advice and counsel on immigration issues to low-income residents in removal proceedings.
2. Represent clients in bond, master calendar, and individual hearings in Immigration Court, as well as before the Board of Immigration Appeals when filing appeals.
3. Conduct workshops, clinics, outreach activities, and information sessions on topics related to removal defense for immigrants.
4. Comply with IIBA's policies, procedures, protocols, and best practices for non-profit immigration law practice.
5. Train and help supervise administrative support staff, legal interns, and other volunteers.
6. Participate in meetings on behalf of IIBA and its partner organizations and collaborators.

Requirements:

• J.D. from ABA Certified Law School: A current Bar Membership in good standing.
• Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in immigration law, preferably representing clients in removal proceedings.
• Skills and Abilities: Ability to act independently, identify, and access resources to assist in preparing cases. Ability to handle a high volume of removal defense cases. Comfortable working with minimal supervision.
