The Quantitative Biology Scientist will be a key member of the team responsible for developing and validating biochemical and cell-based assays for new molecular targets selected for drug discovery programs. He/She will be charged with delivering high quality potency, selectivity and characterization data to profile and evaluate compounds generated by our chemistry team. The data generated by the Quantitative Biology group is a critical element in the selection of drug candidates and the advancement of carefully selected programs into clinical evaluation. The successful candidate will be expected to work hand-in-glove with our chemists and biologists in a daily basis, designing experiments, reviewing and explaining data generated from complex molecular pharmacology.
The candidate is likely to hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry or a related quantitative biological discipline with a minimum of 4 years post-doctoral research experience in a rigorous drug discovery environment. Truly exceptional candidates with a B.S. or M.S. and at least 15 years relevant industry experience and a documented track record of success, productivity and innovation in a highly automated environment may also be considered. The Quantitative Biology group will rely heavily on laboratory robotics and automated data analysis. Experience in selecting, implementing and evolving the hardware and software of automated drug discovery platforms is a pre-requisite as are advanced computer skills and expertise in biochemistry and cell biology. The candidate should be able to critically influence the selection and implementation of instrumentation technology purchases. The role demands a highly goal-driven approach and the ability to focus on time-sensitive objectives. The candidate should also enjoy operating in an exceptionally dynamic and cooperative environment in which the "rules book" has not yet been written.
