About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and collaborative Capital Facilities Planning Director to provide expert leadership in the ongoing development of our campus. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for advancing the physical development of facilities that enable education, performance, administration, and living programs that sustain our students and faculty.

Job Summary

The Capital Facilities Planning Director will serve as a leader on campus and in our broader communities, responsible for the strategy and day-to-day direction and supervision of all capital facilities planning needs. You will manage both project planning and design for all major and minor capital projects, including remodels, renovations, and new constructions. Additionally, you will ensure that the planning and design of all capital projects are functional, environmentally sustainable, appropriately scoped, well-designed, and cost-effective.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive capital facilities plan, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives and institutional priorities.
  • Provide leadership and direction to our facilities team, ensuring effective project management and delivery.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritize capital projects, ensuring that they meet our needs and align with our budget.
  • Maintain CalArts' aesthetic standards and regulatory compliance, serving as our chief design official and building official.
  • Serve as our liaison with local authorities, ensuring compliance with regulations and facilitating partnerships.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • 10+ years of capital facilities planning and development experience.
  • Proven ability to interact and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent financial stewardship skills, with experience managing projects within budget constraints.
  • Strong knowledge of facilities management, safety protocols, and technology integration.
  • Ability to establish clear goals and lead teams towards achieving them.
  • Commitment to equity and fostering an inclusive community culture.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Arts-facility project management experience.
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in similar areas of responsibility.
  • Experience using data and analytics to drive decision-making.
  • Fundraising skills and mindset, with ability to collaborate closely with advancement departments.
Salary

This role offers a competitive salary of $120,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
