About the Role

As the Engineering Director of Community at Canonical, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of open source community engagement. This is a unique opportunity to make a broad impact and drive growth across all engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist various teams at Canonical in broadening their community engagement activities
  • Ensure that all engineering teams prioritize community engagement in their work
  • Provide guidance and support to new and existing contributors seeking to get involved or expand their role
  • Connect community contributors with mentors and facilitate cross-team participation in community events and mentoring
  • Collaborate with the Ubuntu community team to ensure high-quality community processes are consistently implemented
What You'll Do
  • Collaborate proactively with multiple distributed teams
  • Help engineering teams establish and achieve community engagement goals
  • Establish consistency in community process, engagement, and interaction across engineering
  • Influence others and represent technical insight to customers and other engineers
  • Spend a significant amount of time mentoring others and providing cross-team input
  • Work from home with occasional global travel for internal and external events
  • Collaborate with developer advocates and PR teams to promote Ubuntu and related technologies via blogs and social media
  • Identify relevant influencers and devise plans to effectively engage with them

  • Experience leading successful projects and teams

  • A BS/BA or equivalent in Computer Science, Technical Communication, English, or a related field
