At Canonical, a leading provider of open-source software and operating systems for global enterprise and technology markets, we strive to empower communities and facilitate innovation. As a Community Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting our community initiatives.

The Ubuntu Community team at Canonical enables community leaders and participants to achieve their goals by coordinating with Canonical teams and ensuring that community processes are efficient and well-organized. In this role, you will utilize your technical skills and strong organizational abilities to integrate community plans with Canonical's strategies for maximum impact.

You will be responsible for encouraging and facilitating the creation of new technical projects that enhance the community contribution experience. This includes representing community interests to Canonical teams, addressing concerns of volunteer developers in the Ubuntu community, and helping them create successful tools.

In addition to providing content and technical support to ensure the community stays engaged and informed, you will also communicate effectively with developers and software engineers, representing both the Ubuntu community and Canonical as contributors to the wider Linux ecosystem.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically proficient individual who is passionate about open source software, Linux, and sustainable community building. If you have experience in DevOps, Software Development, Testing or QA, package management, container technology, and possess a clear public record of accomplishments, this role may be a good fit for you.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating proactively with a distributed team
  • Writing high-quality content to promote and support community initiatives
  • Discussing ideas and collaborating on finding good solutions to community problems
  • Representing Ubuntu through speaking engagements at events and conferences
